Tinto Barossa

The Barossa has two Spanish varieties being Grenache and Mataro which have a long history both here and in Europe. The Rosenvale Vineyards are planted to rare varieties of Tinta Madiera and Tinta Cao that were planted for the production of the Rare Rose. However with the desire to explore these varieties further, we have produced a table wine full of flavour with the addition of Graciano and in future vintages Tempranillo and Mataro will be added to the Tinto Barossa varietal blend.

VINEYARD NOTES
The Barossa has two Spanish varieties being Grenache and Mataro which have a long history both here and in the EU. Rosenvale believes this area of the world has a few more varieties of interest so we planted our family vineyards with Tinta Cao, Graciano and Tinta Madeira with the sole purpose of making a Rose’ wine. The vineyards are young and on a modern trellis system.
We prune for target yields in consultation with mother nature and the vineyard is managed on a Dynamic viticulture system.

HARVEST NOTES
2017 growing season was one of the wettest on record. Cooler than average spring and early summer meant the vines grew slowly but healthily. Two short bursts of high temperatures. Two well-timed rain events in late January and early February kept vines healthy and in no rush to ripen, with the rest of February remaining dry. The average minimum and maximum temperatures for March were 2 to 3 C above average, followed by a notable shift to much cooler nights from late March onwards.

Open fermented with 10 days on skins. Twice daily pump overs and gently pushing down the cap.  After ferment is done, we press the juice from the skins with our computer controlled open slot air bag press to barrel.  The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation then we rack and return to barrel for maturation.

TASTING NOTES
Fresh raspberry, cherry, blueberry and spice aromas flow seamlessly through the palate.  Silky plush tannins draw length and provide mouthfeel that see's the acid balance soft to the finish.

"This is comfortingly delicious, showing dark berry, vanilla, thyme and spicy oak characters, combined with supple mouthfeel and rich fruit intensity, finishing long and satisfying. Beautifully proportioned and silky-smooth to the finish. A blend of Tinta Cao, Tinta Madeira & Graciano. At its best: now to 2031." 94 Points - Wine Orbit, Sam Kim.
