Vintage 2015
BAROSSA VALLEY, SOUTH AUSTRALIA
VINEYARD NOTES
Our Stockwell Rise vineyard is one of our younger vineyards planted to 26 selections of Shiraz. The vines are grown on Red and brown soils over red clay with an underlying stone and clay mix and minimal till. These vines enjoy a small amount of additional food and supplementary water to help maintain then on tough days. The vine is trained to a Roseback cordon placement with one set of lift wires and a catch wire on top. Detailed spur pruning gives better bunch positioning and a limited number of grapes per year.
HARVEST NOTES
August and Spring were drier and had warmer days (1-4C) than average, meaning the vines got away to a good healthy start. There were mid-late spring frosts and in the second week of January a nice amount of rain fell, which kept vines healthy and grapes ripening. February did nothing to stop the ripening or hinder quality, being warm to hot: 2.5C warmer than average during the day, cool at night and almost completely dry.
This parcel was fermented in one open fermenter, 13 days on skins, twice daily pump overs and gently pushing down the cap. After ferment is done, we press the juice from the skins with our computer controlled open slot air bag press to barrel. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation then we rack and return to barrel for maturation.
TASTING NOTES
Subtle charry oak, leather & spice compliment blackberry & dark fruitcake aromas. The palate displays Blackberry, leather, hints of brambles & spice with silky tannins.
